Susan’s Summer wines recommendations are a Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir; Susan says “Don’t be afraid to slightly chill the Pinot.”
Sauvignon Blanc – This brilliantly clear, light straw-colored wine smells of pineapple, passion fruit, guava and grapefruit, with a hint of minerality. The palate offers generous nectarine and grapefruit with some flinty notes and a clean, refreshing finish. Simi Sauvignon Blanc pairs wonderfully well with gazpacho, raw oysters, and beet, orange and goat cheese salad.
Sonoma County Pinot Noir – Deep ruby with a bright edge, our 2009 Sonoma County Pinot Noir offers aromas of plum, raspberry, black cherry, cranberry, gingerbread, violets and light toast, followed by generous flavors of dark plum, cherry, lifted hints of creamy oak, dark spice, toffee and vanilla. This wine is well structured and elegant with delightfully firm, balanced acidity. The finish? Velvety and compelling. We suggest pairing this wine with paella and Tuscan-marinated roast pork loin.
2010 Charlotte’s Home, Sauvignon Blanc, Estate Vineyards – Light, crisp, and highly aromatic, the warmer climate Alexander Valley fruit gives this wine ripe pear and melon character, while the ocean cooled Russian River Valley fruit offers citrus, mineral, and traditional herbaceous qualities. Together, the two valleys make a classic Northern Sonoma sauvignon blanc that is fresh, lively, and will drink beautifully over the next 1 to 2 years.
2009 Knotty Vines, Zinfandel, Estate Vineyards -Fresh, bright berry fruit from our heritage Russian River Vineyard combined with the ripe peppery jamminess from our Alexander Valley Vineyard make for wonderful diversity of flavor showcasing the best that Zinfandel can offer in one wine. Aging for 16 moths in French and American pak enhances the Zinfandel’s inherent spicy qualities, while the ebullient fruit of this medium, rich wine. Suggest enjoyment over the next 2 to 4 years.
Alexander Valley Vineyards Estate Chardonnay:
Harvested from estate vineyards along the Russian River our Chardonnay is dry, crisp and clean, with pleasantly rich flavors of citrus fruits, peaches, green apples, minerals and vanilla. It’s not a big oaky wine, instead it is elegant and food friendly. 30% fermented in French Oak & 70% in stainless. Chill this one and enjoy with a plate of soft cheese, seafood (grilled or steamed) or roasted chicken.
Alexander Valley Vineyards Estate Syrah : Small lot, whole berry fermentation contributes bright fruitiness and aging in toasty French and American oak barrels for 14 months adds richness. A bit of Viognier is blended with the Syrah to increase aromatics. Beautiful blackberry and blueberry flavors, along with smokiness and spice. A perfect summer red, try it with any food off the grill – beef, lamb, burgers, chicken or veggies.
